National Low Income Housing Coalition

The National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) is a nonprofit established in 1974 and dedicated solely to achieving socially just public policy that assures people with the lowest incomes in the U.S. have affordable and decent homes. NLIHC conducts research on housing needs (like its annual Out of Reach report on the gap between rents and wages), educates the public and policymakers, and advocates for solutions to end homelessness and housing instability. The coalition convenes a broad network of housing advocates and pushes for measures such as increased federal housing vouchers, a National Housing Trust Fund, and emergency rental assistance.
