Diplomacy & Coalitions

Strengthen alliances of democracies to present a united front.

Build and coordinate a coalition of democracies so pressure on rights abusers lands together instead of piecemeal. Use existing forums like the G7 and the Summit for Democracy to align statements, timelines, and follow-through—such as joint UN action, coordinated sanctions, and shared support for pro-democracy movements. This matters now because global freedom is declining and there are openings for democracies to act together.

Why this works

  • Multilateral pressure is harder for autocrats to ignore, and sharing the burden (e.g.
  • EU, US, and regional democracies all sanctioning a regime) amplifies impact.
  • It also avoids singling out the U.S., reducing claims of “Western imperialism” if many countries speak together.
